Fun Snapshots

There was a time when I used to post stories and poems on the AOL Story & Poetry Boards. They would post a suggested topic each week, which contributors were expected write their poems and stories about. One week the topic was ROMANCE, so I wrote the following poem which tells about meeting a young lady on a blind date that had been arranged by a frined of mine - and the amazing way in which the evening ended:

1952 - Amusement Pier - Long Beach, California

Iranian Woman Rollercoaster at Night

Rollercoaster Romance

A summer's night out at the beach -
the old amusement pier.
My pal said my blind date would be
a girl who's real sincere.

Well she was that, and so much more -
she took me by the arm.
And held it very closely -
as if to ward off harm.

Iranian was what she was,
but English she knew well.
She came here as a student -
a smart one, you could tell.

With dark brown eyes, and long black hair,
she had a mystic charm.
She definitely intrigued me,
as we walked arm in arm.

But what was there to talk about?
She was a quiet one.
I wondered if this cryptic miss
had really come for fun.

The rollercoaster was my ride -
I asked if she would go.
But she just look so frightened there -
and said she didn't know.

I said, "Come on - it's not that bad.
It's really fun to do."
"Well, only if you'll hold me tight...
And just because it's you."

Well, holding tight was fine with me.
I mean, I'm just a guy.
And she just snuggled up real close
as we climbed toward the sky.

Well, coming down she screamed and cried
and held me closer still.
While I began to think of ways
to get a bigger thrill.

While holding her so tightly there,
our bodies closely pressed,
She didn't try to back away
when one hand found a breast.

She put her hand on top of mine
and helped me give a squeeze
Well, this I hadn't bargained for -
I trembled at the knees.

With each and every ride we did,
she'd let me have a feel -
And never tried to hold me off -
like it was no big deal.

And when I asked to drive her home
she said that would be fine.
But didn't want to go straight home -
could we just stop at mine?

What's going on? We'd only met -
was this my lucky night?
Against temptation such as this
I wasn't going to fight.

My bachelor pad was not too big -
a sofa was my bed.
Then we began to hug and kiss -
and this is what she said.

"I hope you have a cover.
If not, we can't go on."
"You mean like covers for the bed?"
"No, one that you put on."

Well, yes, of course...it now made sense.
I had one in a drawer.
But had some trouble finding it.
(I hadn't planned to score.)

Well, I can't get too graphic here.
But words we didn't need.
And when she cried out that it hurt
I feared we'd not succeed.

"What did I do? Why does it hurt?
It's supposed to feel real good."
I thought that I'd done everything
a caring fellow should.

But she just smiled and said, "You know -
the first time there is pain."
"That's what my girl friends told me.
But how could I explain?"

Well, this came as a shock to me.
(She said she couldn't wait.)
But why pick me for her first time?
And why with just one date?

She said, "I want to marry you.
You're like my husband now."
"I love you so - I really do
it's seems so right somehow."

"And by the way, one other thing
I guess I should explain."
"My student visa just expired -
they won't let me remain."
